Season of Hope-- Letter to All

"The golden moments in the stream of life push past us and we see nothing but sand;
The angels come to visit us and we only know them when they are gone;
We shall not cease from exploration;
And the end of all our exploring shall be to arrive where we started;
And know the place for the first time."
T.S. Eliot

My Letter to All--
Dear Family, Friends, Creditors and Voyeurs--
As we enter a new year with a whimper and a sigh, I thought it fitting to remind you of your responsibilities to make mine a happy one. This can be easily accomplished... by simply being yourself and loving one another, as I treasure each of you.
Fullness of times, it certainly is!! And based on years of histerical data, I will probably repeat my performance; however, what is truly astounding is that life gets somehow better inspite of receiving a "C-" in acquisition American style.
I have come to believe that I must be a man for all seasons... snatching defeat from the jaws of success with amazing regularity. How wonderful the weakness, how I have come to enjoy the satire of my efforts.
In case the upbeat tone of this is too much for some of you... grab a valium and bear in mind that I probably overstate... and that my nihilistic attitude stems from being unable, personally, to defy gravity or change the course of mighty rivers, reduce my carbon footprint or downsize to win the Nobelly Prize by simply living within my seams!
We sink into paradox with our whiny egos until at last it becomes clear what an absolutely marvelous sense of humour Father has, if we can only wipe away the tears long enough to see it.
If you read behind the lines of these semi-sarcastic ramblings you will see my effort to bring you a little smile, which I believe is ever present at the birth of hope.
And so I am reminded once again of what a handful I am. And how fortunate to have known each of you, all of whom are especially endowed with more perspicacity than one might expect in the world at large.
I am grateful to you for your love and forbearance.
I think of you with a prayer that your experiment with life brings you joy
and you and I closer in mutual understanding.
I remain--
Uncle RICO

For GOD hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind...

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities...
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace and receive mercy.

Quip--Quote

Living is being off balance
one foot in the air-
While in this ridiculous stance
One might as well dance.

We may not have it all together--
but together,
we have it all.

Are we all here because we're not all there?

When outgo exceeds income--
Upkeep is downfall!

Don't believe everything you think.

When going through HELL-- keep going!

WARNER ENTERPRISES

WARNER ENTERPRISES
770 South West Temple Salt Lake City, Utah 84101

TO WHOM 1T MAY CONCERN:

Richard L. Warner, Jr. worked for over eighteen years in our automobile dealerships in Salt Lake City, Utah. In these years he gained experience selling and leasing cars, trucks, vans, and recreational vehicles. He had management responsibilities in sales, advertising, and finance at Rick Warner Ford and Warner Imports. As Finance and Insurance Manager, he doubled our net profit his first year. As Vehicle Manager he set new sales records, and developed an unusually strong team.

During an internship at Galpin Motors in Los Angeles he became No. 1 among a sales team of 80 in his fourth month. He returned to management positions in the family business after demonstrating high levels of achievement. We were pleased to have him represent our enterprise along with 128 V.P.s/General Managers from 30 countries at Harvard Graduate School of Business (where he graduated at the top of his class).

He makes friends easily, he understands people, and has a keen sense of humor. He is extremely bright, very perceptive, and is highly creative. He has an ability to gain immediate rapport and trust with customers and others. As Vice President of our holding company, Warner Enterprises, he had responsibilities for Personnel, Customer Service, and New Business- initiating our franchises: Nissan-Volvo-Sterling, Hyundai, Chevrolet-Geo-Buick and Honda-Toyota .

In his community/church service he shows outstanding leadership. The people with whom he works love and respect him, appreciating his dedication and willingness to devote his time unselfishly.

Sincerely,
Richard L. Warner
Chairman, Warner Enterprises

Rick Warner Tribute

Faith of Our Father—Farewell

by Richard Warner, Jr.

SUPERMAN, Family man, Gentleman, Businessman, Sportsman, Utah Man, Sir, Man of Uncommon Courage, Insight, Strength and Humor, Survivor, Hall of Famer—all. I rise to honor the most important thing about any man, his faith.

Father’s fundamental faith, instilled by loving parents early, was bolstered in an apostolic blessing pronounced on his head by Uncle Stephen L Richards following surgery to fuse his right hip at age nine. He held onto The PROMISE that he would be able to accomplish anything if he lived a righteous life. Later, after marrying his eternal companion Marian, his faith increased as she taught him much including that leaving Sacrament Meeting for a tennis tournament final does not qualify as Sunday Service.

As you know, through his faith and hard work, father amassed a considerable fortune and has born testimony that had he not ultimately lost this earthly empire, he may never have been able to lay it aside for that of a world of precious time with family and spiritual expansion. When the call came to serve in the Hawaii Temple a large melanoma was discovered on his back. Another apostolic blessing, this time from President Monson, in which he promised Father that his time was not yet and that he and mother would complete their mission. Upon visiting, I was amazed to find that Father had implemented a daily operating system not to track cars or trucks, carburators or warranties-- but sacred ordinances, sealings, baptisms, endowments. He became mighty in things that matter.

Grateful am I for the privilege of serving Father in recent months as he deemed me his valet—getting close in ways heretofore unimaginable as we experienced a fullness of times.

As I emptied his sealer’s locker in the S.L. Temple, I marveled at the MIGHTY CHANGE wrought in him according to his faith as he served so valiantly in so many ways; how he managed to rid his soul of any bitterness or enmity and strip it of pride. How sweet the uses of adversity have been in refining him into a fine old High Priest, a Patriarch, Provider, Protector, Presider. How well he lived. How well he endured to the end of his mortality.

Finally, Father (Richard Longstroth Warner) lay on the hospital bed with that Ammon-like chest of his full of infection, those magnificent arms of flesh no good to him anymore… relying wholly upon the merits of Him who is mighty to save, reconciled to Christ—the Author and Finisher of his faith. Approaching the threshold of the eternal worlds, he pulled me close and whispered: “I’m looking forward to meeting my Maker.”

Now he can lay claim to the Infinite Atonement and enjoy richly the blessings of Abaham, Isaac and Jacob—which Elder Maxwell reminded us, is ALL the blessings there are. Upon opening his scriptures I fixated on the heavy underline of Alma’s (5:12) words: “THIS IS ALL TRUE.”

I do not doubt our father knew it.

“HERE IS A MAN, TAKE HIM FOR ALL THAT HE IS, FOR WE MAY NOT SEE HIS LIKE AGAIN.” Wm. Shakespeare
